So you’ve made it past the “thees” and “thous.”
You’ve read the blog intro, nodded your head, maybe laughed once (or twice, if you were properly caffeinated).
And now you’re ready to actually open the King James Bible.

But where do you start? Genesis? Revelation? Leviticus?! 😳

Friend, don’t worry — we’re not tossing you into the deep end of cubits and genealogies just yet.

Let’s ease you in.

Think of this post as your KJV Starter Sampler Platter: five chapters that are easy to read, rich in meaning, and guaranteed to make you say,
“Wait… the KJV is kind of amazing.”

🕊 1. Psalm 23“The Lord is my shepherd…”

Why Start Here:

Because this chapter is comfort food for the soul. It’s poetic, familiar, and surprisingly short (only six verses!). If the Bible had a lullaby section, this would be it.

💡 Watch for:

  • The rhythm of the language
  • The way it paints God as both protector and provider
  • The fact that it’s deeply personal: *“my” shepherd, *“with me,” “my cup”

✨ 2. John 1“In the beginning was the Word…”

Why Start Here:

This one is majestic and mysterious — and it gets right to the heart of who Jesus is. It might take a reread, but the flow of this chapter feels like standing in front of something holy and vast.

💡 Watch for:

  • How the chapter connects Jesus to the very act of creation
  • The poetic balance of light and darkness
  • The phrase: “full of grace and truth” — because wow

💛 3. Proverbs 3“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart…”

Why Start Here:

If Psalms is comfort, Proverbs is pep talk + wisdom mixtape. This chapter is full of short, punchy truths that feel like they were written for your group chat (but with more “thines”).

💡 Watch for:

  • Practical life advice that still applies today
  • The theme of trusting God even when you don’t “get it”
  • How correction from God is actually a sign of His love

🕊 4. Romans 8“There is therefore now no condemnation…”

Why Start Here:

Because this chapter is freedom on the page. Paul hits us with the gospel, assurance, and deep encouragement all in one beautiful sweep.

💡 Watch for:

  • Powerful one-liners like “If God be for us, who can be against us?”
  • How the Spirit helps us when we don’t know what to pray
  • A finale that’ll have you ready to run through a wall for Jesus

🙌 5. Matthew 5“Blessed are the poor in spirit…”

Why Start Here:

Welcome to the Sermon on the Mount — where Jesus sits down, looks you in the eye (kinda), and tells you what the Kingdom is really about. It’s unexpected. Upside-down. And absolutely unforgettable.

💡 Watch for:

  • The “blessed are” statements (called the Beatitudes)
  • How Jesus raises the bar on heart-level righteousness
  • His poetic teaching style that still echoes in culture today

📌 Bonus Tip: You Don’t Have to Read it All at Once

This isn’t a Bible reading sprint. You don’t need to read all five chapters tonight with a notebook, a commentary, and three highlighters. (Though if that’s your jam, I see you and I support you.)

Just… start. Pick one.
Read it. Sit with it.
Then come back and check out one of the others.

If a verse confuses you, that’s okay. We’ll work through it together.
If a word makes you want to Google “archaic English,” I probably already did that for you.
You’re not alone here.
